The "Native Americans Information Directory" provides information on approx imately 4,500 organizations, agencies, institutions, programs, services, an d publications that pertain to native Americans, their life, and their cult ure. The directory is similar to Gale's parent volume, "Encyclopedia of Ass ociations", and its two specialized minority directories, "Black Americans Information Directory, 1990-1991" and "Hispanic Americans Information Direc tory, 1990-1991" [RBB Ja 15 90] The directory is divided into five parts. E ach of the first four parts covers a specific group (American Indians, Alas kan natives, native Hawaiians, and aboriginal Canadians) and includes descr iptive entries on tribal communities. The last section contains material of a general nature on native Americans. All five sections provide listings f or national, regional, state or provincial, and local organizations; federa l, state or provincial, and local government agencies; library and museum c ollections; research centers; education programs, scholarships, and fellows hips; and print and broadcast media, publishers, and videos. A master name and keyword index provides access to the entries in all five sections. A ma jor omission is the lack of information about federal Indian reservations S imilar information, except for native Hawaiians, can be found in the "Refer ence Encyclopedia of the American Indian" ["RBB" Ja 15 91]. It does include Indian reservations, plus a biographical section on living native American s. In a broader work, although now somewhat dated, "Minority Organizations: A National Directory" (3d ed. ["RBB" My 15 88]), information is included f.
