4 Angelis, David De The Secret of Perfect Vision: How You Can Prevent and Reverse Nearsightedne ss
North Atlantic Books 2008 1556436777 / 9781556436772 Paperback Fine
A tight clean softcover, no markings throughout, NOT an ex-libary book: Author David De Angelis's search for a cure for nearsightedness was both professional and personal, since he suffered from the disease himself. An expert in muscular work dynamics, he discovered through extensive testing and an immersion in decades of scientific studies that working the extrinsic ocular muscles could preserve sight and re-educate the eyes toward better vision. He came to understand the importance of retinal defocus for transforming ocular refractive status. In this book, the author shares both the science and the "secret"-progressive retinal defocus technique-of how he was able to reverse his own myopia. The system's efficacy, he says, comes from the fact that it directly intervenes with the causes that generate myopia onset and development (overaccommodative/near-point stress). When adequately stimulated by the simple exercises presented in the book, ocular refractive capability leads to gradual strengthening of focusing capability and gradual decreasing of refractive error. Written in straightforward language, and featuring an extensive section on the scientific research in this field, The Secret of Perfect Vision offers a proven program of healing to the millions of people afflicted with this condition. 7 Association, American Yoga 20-Minute Yoga Workouts
Wellspring/Ballantine 1995 0345388453 / 9780345388452 Paperback As New
A crisp clean softcover, no markings throughout. The people depicted in the photographs used throughout this effective, easy-to-follow guide are neither super-skinny nor overly muscled; one has gray hair, one is pregnant, one's tummy bulges over his waistband. Clearly addressing ordinary folk, Christensen breaks down each of her 20-minute practices into two minutes of breathing, two minutes of slow warm-up and eight minutes each of exercise and meditation. All the routines provide full-body toning. Some are very gentle. Several are quite challenging. Christensen suggests that meditation enhances one's ability to be in the moment and to concentrate. Her well-designed approach, explained in lucid, focused prose, allows readers to refer easily to what they need. Readers seeking help with certain positions, those interested in the philosophical basis of yoga or those seeking friendly support and advice will find that information here.

The OASIS Guide to Asperger Syndrome: Advice, Support, Insight, and Inspira tion, Attwood, Tony
8 Attwood, Tony The OASIS Guide to Asperger Syndrome: Advice, Support, Insight, and Inspira tion
Crown 2001 0609608118 / 9780609608111 Hardcover Near Fine/Very Good
A crisp clean hardcover, no markings throughout, not an ex-lib: Parents struggling to find answers about their children often have to wade through pedantic and confusing mazes. Frequently, books about medical or developmental conditions offer little more than the author's personal story or a textbookish monotone. Refreshingly, these authors delve into the shady, often misunderstood world of pervasive developmental disorders, of which perhaps the most well-known is autism, with clarity, warmth and amazing depth, focusing on Asperger Syndrome (AS). The authors present unfamiliar terms and jargon with full explanations, and with none of the patronizing tone sometimes encountered in the medical world. The reader is not left with the personal story alone, and forced to go off on her own expedition for information. The authors (both mothers of AS children) effectively trace this disorder from the onset of symptoms through adulthood. While most parents may be tempted to skip straight to Chapter 2 to devour the list of telltale signs and apply them to their own child, they would do well to start at the beginning. The book grew out of the authors' OASIS Web site (Online Asperger Syndrome Information and Support), which has furthered AS research immeasurably (the site's response rates alone provide important information about potential numbers of people with AS). These authors have certainly done their homework. Besides invaluable practical information, parents and other interested persons will find comfort in the book's welcoming tone and the knowledge that they are not alone.

A copy that has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. For decades, Dr. Jeffrey Bland has been on the cutting edge of Functional M edicine, which seeks to pinpoint and prevent the cause of illness, rather t han treat its symptoms. Managing chronic diseases accounts for three quarte rs of our total healthcare costs, because we're masking these illnesses wit h pills and temporary treatments, rather than addressing their underlying c auses, he argues. Worse, only treating symptoms leads us down the path of f urther illness. In The Disease Delusion, Dr. Bland explains what Functional Medicine is and what it can do for you. While advances in modern science have nearly doubled our lifespans in only four generations, our quality of life has not reached its full potential. Outlining the reasons why we suffer chronic diseases from asthma and diabetes to obesity, arthritis and cancer to a host of other ailments, Dr. Bland offers achievable, science-based solutions that can alleviate these common conditions and offers a roadmap for a lifetime of wellness.
