1 Andersen, Susan Be My Baby
Avon March 1, 1999 0-380-79512-4 / 9780380795123 Paperback Very Good+
A crisp clean softcover, no markings throughout: New Orleans Police Sergeant Beauregard Dupree has spent the last 10 years raising his three orphaned sisters. Now that the last one is about to leave the nest, he's looking forward to impending bachelorhood. And when he's or dered to guard prim and proper Bostonian Juliet Rose Astor Lowell, Beau dec ides to get himself unassigned from this latest round of babysitting duty b y exposing the prudish lady to the rather uncivilized side of life in the F rench Quarter. What good old Beau doesn't know is that a passionate woman exists under Jul iet's buttoned-down exterior, and Beau's ultra-macho treatment only unleash es her wild side. Juliet is fascinated by the seamy joints Beau drags her t o, and she's also intrigued and aroused by the sexual innuendoes designed t o anger her. It isn't long before Beau is having way too much fun with the woman he wanted to ditch, and Juliet is craving the handsome Southerner in ways she never imagined. And while the two attempt to dismiss the threat to her life, the danger is very real. When someone takes a shot at Juliet, Be au starts to take his bodyguard duties very seriously, while Juliet struggl es to deal with the fact that someone wishes her harm. Not only does Be My Baby bubble with hilarious dialogue, superb sexual tension, and the color and heat of New Orleans, but it also possesses a solid suspense subplot that perfectly balances the wonderful romance. 2 Andersen, Susan Getting Lucky
Avon March 1, 2003 0-380-81918-X / 9780380819188 Paperback Near Fine
Marine Zach Taylor is stubborn, overbearing and paranoid. But he's also han dsome, which counts for a lot in Andersen's sexy romances (Head Over Heels, etc.). When he comes home on leave and meets curvaceous chef Lily Morriset te at his sister's place, he immediately assumes that she's after Glynnis's substantial trust fund. On the rare occasions he stops making her life mis erable on this account, it's only because he suspects Glynnis's new fiancee , David, of the same thing. Upon discovering that Glynnis has gone to visit David's family, Zach rushes off to save his sister with Lily in tow. After that snafu is untangled, a Colombian with a grudge against Zach kidnaps Li ly. Zach is surprisingly ineffective and unlikable right up to his 11th-hou r romantic capitulation, while Lily's sexual, culinary and financial sophis tication seems unusual for a woman who curses by saying "holy petunia" and "oh, poop." But perfect pacing, steamy sex and a fun cast of secondary char acters make up for what's missing in character consistency. From David's be latedly blossoming sister to Zach's charming Marine buddies, the story's su pporting cast adds human warmth and an extra dose of fantasy.
